The June conference of the prestigious global network of law firms Interlaw EMEA 2024, which you may have already read about on our website, was not only a great opportunity to discuss ongoing cross-border projects and further develop international opportunities, but also gave participants the opportunity to help the local church primary speech therapy school and kindergarten Don Bosco with their own hands. The school has been operating in various forms since 1943, and although its importance in the education of children with communication problems is absolutely crucial, the teaching premises are in very poor technical condition.
Under the auspices of Interlaw Cares, a charity aid coordinating group within the international Interlaw network, we provided the school with a financial donation and over 40 volunteers coming from our office and foreign participants of the conference. In agreement with the school headmistress, the first team took up the work tools and helped the school manually (by painting furniture or creating a tactile walkway), the second group took care of the children and introduced them to the most interesting things of their home country during engaging presentations. The opportunity to learn more first-hand about the United Kingdom, Mauritius, Cyprus, Malta and other countries sparked great curiosity in children. Thanks to the funny personal stories of the volunteers, they quickly overcame their initial shyness and communicated wonderfully with the presenters in English. In particular, everyone enjoyed the stormy discussion with the Italians about the strict ban on ketchup and pineapple on pizza, and there was also a taunt of the Swedes about the quality of the Czech hockey team, which made even experienced teachers laugh. We were reminded again that even a small help can have a profound impact.
Our office prides itself on meaningful support mainly for the immediate community in which we live. The Don Bosco Church Primary Speech Therapy School and Kindergarten is a special school for children with speech and language disorders in Prague. The school provides personalized educational plans tailored to each child’s needs, and its programs focus on developing communication skills, social skills, and autonomy. The school has a team of experienced teachers, speech therapists and psychologists working together to support children’s development and aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment where children can grow, learn and thrive, and develop the skills they need to reach their full potential.
We would like to thank the headmistress Daniela Špinková for the opportunity to contribute to the mission of the school and to create an inspiring partnership, which we will be happy to continue.
